つづく光

いつも歩いている岸壁沿いの道から、夜はピカピカと光る十字架がいつも遠くに見えていました。ずっとそこになにがあり、その十字架にはどんな意味があるのか気になっていました。この街の滞在も終わりに近づいた日、そこまで歩いてみました。滞在する観光地化した街とはちがう生活のにおいがする町をすぎ、港沿いを歩くと丘が近づきました。この丘は、1881年のチリ・ペルー戦争の戦いの場になった場所だそうです。十字架の足元には砲台がありました。この十字架は、1988年にテロ活動によって破壊された鉄塔を利用して作られたものだそうです。丘を上がる道で、きっと十字架のそばにある礼拝堂に行ってきたのだろう. 家族とあいさつをかわした。戦いと破壊の場が、祈りをつづけていく場になっている。遠くから見るだけでなく、行ってよかったと思った朝になりました。まだ痛みがつづくこの国の平和を、心から祈っています。

Desde el sendero que siempre recorría, siempre podía ver una cruz resplandeciente a lo lejos por la noche. Siempre me había preguntado qué era y cuál era su significado. Casi al final de mi estancia en la ciudad, decidí ir caminando. Tras pasar por un pueblo con un ambiente localidad, caminé por el puerto y llegué a una colina. Al parecer, esta colina fue escenario de una batalla en la guerra chileno-peruana de 1881. Al pie de la cruz había una batería. Al parecer, la cruz se construyó con una torre que se destruyó por un atentado terrorista en 1988. Al subir la colina, intercambié saludos con la familia, que debió de visitar la capilla cercana. Este lugar de guerra y destrucción se ha convertido en un lugar de oración constante. Esta mañana, me alegré de no solo haberlo admirado desde lejos, sino también de haberlo visitado. Rezo sinceramente por la paz en este país, que aún sufre.

From the path I always walked, I could always see a glowing cross in the distance at night. I had always wondered what it was and what its significance was. Near the end of my stay in the city, I decided to walk. After passing through a village with a local atmosphere, I walked along the port and came to a hill. Apparently, this hill was the place of a battle in the Chilean-Peruvian War of 1881. At the foot of the cross, there was a battery. Apparently, the cross was built with a tower that was destroyed by a terrorist attack in 1988. As we climbed the hill, I passed with the family, who must have visited the nearby chapel. This place of war and destruction has become a place of constant prayer. This morning, I was glad not only to have admired it from afar, but also to have visited it. I sincerely pray for peace in this country, which still suffers.
